Cannabis based therapy is the huge new wellness trend that is taking the world by storm. And there is a growing range of CBD infused products coming to the market.
So it’s no surprise that the rapidly growing cannabidiol (pronounced can-na-bid-i-ol) market is predicted to be worth £2billion by the end of 2020.
The compound CBD is a derivative of a type of cannabis called hemp, which is industrially grown. CBD oil contains no THC - or tetrahydrocannabinol - the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis that gets you high, and it has wide ranging benefits.
It is widely touted for its alleged health benefits including better sleep and anxiety and pain relief.
Since becoming legal in the UK as a food supplement, there has been an explosion of products containing the ingredient thanks to its therapeutic qualities.
Even Coca-Cola has hinted at considering developing a CBD-infused drink.
Love Hemp has a growing range of innovative and trusted CBD products available to its customers. These include CBD oils, capsules and sprays as well as an edible CBD range of water, chocolates and gummies, and a growing range of CBD infused cosmetics including body salves and face masks.
The CBD market is growing rapidly in the UK and research shows that the number of people using CBD oil has quadrupled in the past two years alone.
CBD oil is already a billion-dollar industry in the 30 American states where cannabis has been legalised and has celebrity fans including Michael J Fox, Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow, Amy Schumer, Kim Kardashian, Kristen Bell and Oprah Winfrey. There were even CBD products being given out in goodie bags at this year’s Oscars.
The apparent benefits of CBD are wide ranging.
In 2017, the World Health Organisation reported that “there is preliminary evidence that CBD may be useful for a number of medical conditions”, among then Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, MS, pain, anxiety, depression, cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, nausea, cardiovascular diseases and diabetic complications.
As a known antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic agent, there is also anecdotal evidence that it improves the symptoms of insomnia, IBS, skin complaints, arthritis and migraines as well as helping with pain relief, anxiety and inflammation.
The effectiveness of CBD is currently being evaluated in clinical trials at King’s College, London. Scientists there are looking at CBD’s potential to treat mental health problems such as anxiety and depression.
So how does CBD work?
We are primed for CBD because the human body is teeming with cannabinoid receptors.
Our body manufactures endocannabinoids in order to pass messages concerning functions such as pain, inflammation, memory, appetite and mood.
Because CBD is a cannabinoid derived from a plant it can affect the body in the same way as endocannabinoids.
Did you know?
Cannabis has been used as a medicine for thousands of years all over the world.
It is a complex plant which contains 483 chemical compounds which can be used for a range of different purposes. CBD is one of the primary cannabidiols.
CBD is a powerful preventative. Take 20-50mg as a general everyday supplement to keep you healthy.
CBD is generally well tolerated with a good safety profile.
To comply with EU law, any CBD product sold over the counter must contain no more than 0.2% THC (compared with 15 to 40% in marijuana).
CBD is non-psychoactive and non-addictive. Love Hemp products contain zero traces of any psychoactive compound.
All Love Hemp products are third party tested under the highest standard strict laboratory conditions using HPLC analysis – or High Performance Liquid Chromatography.

Key benefits for CBD
CBD has a wide range of benefits but three of the most conclusive involve its impact on pain, sleep and anxiety:
CBD can help with both neurological and inflammatory pain and, unlike morphine, its effect is not diminished over time.
There is anecdotal evidence that taking CBD can reduce both inflammation and the perception of pain in conditions including arthritis.
Start with 20mg a day and find the dose that works best for you. People with neurological conditions such as epilepsy, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s may need to work up to an advanced dose of 100-200mg.
CBD has been reported to have a big impact on both the quality and quantity of sleep. Taking CBD through the day can help a person to go to sleep faster, enjoy a deeper sleep and to stay asleep.
As a guide, take 20-100mg of CBD oil split into three doses throughout the day.
Anxiety disorders are on the increase and are still something that a lot of people are reluctant to talk about.
If you are suffering with anxiety, it can be helpful to take 20-50mg of CBD, increasing to 50-100mg if needed. Find the dose that works for you.
How to get started with CBD
Love Hemp has a growing range of innovative CBD products coming to market – everything from CBD infused chocolates, jelly domes and water to body salves, sprays and oils.
It is largely a matter of choice which type of CBD you use.
You can take CBD oil by swallowing it (put a few drops under your tongue, leave for two minutes and then swallow. Rinse the mouth with water to refresh), by absorption through the mucus membranes in your mouth, by inhaling it or by absorption through the skin.
For many people, the most convenient method of taking CBD will be in capsules just like vitamin or mineral supplements. Inhaling CBD by vaporising is another efficient method of ingestion.
CBD creams or body salves can also be rubbed into the skin and absorbed directly. The UFC Welterweight Champion Kamau Usman, a Love Hemp Ambassador, uses Love Hemp Oil 10% twice a day as well as our Body Salve. In fact he credits Love Hemp with helping him to win his prestigious title.
Other Love Hemp fans include Love Island stars Cally Jane and Scott Thomas, Ex On The Beach’s Helen Briggs and Taylor Warn, Sergio Aguero’s girlfriend.
So how much CBD should you use? As a food supplement, the maximum adult daily recommended dose is 200mg. As a guide, to start with we would recommend using a Love Hemp product twice per day and taking 10mg each time.
After a week, double the dose to 20mg twice per day and then increase as desired up to the maximum.
As you get to higher doses, you may choose to take CBD three or four times per day while still not exceeding the maximum dose of 200mg per day.
If you experience any side effects, then take a break for at least one day and then return to the previous lower dose. In this way, you will quickly work out what is best for you.
Some CBD tips:
Look for CBD products which are certified zero THC, have been third party tested under strict laboratory conditions and have a guaranteed CBD concentration.
The best CBD is organically grown EU approved low THC cannabis strain and extracted via food grade CO2. This extraction is the gold standard for producing high quality, pure extracts.
As a rule of thumb, expect to pay £50-70 per 1g of CBD in an oil form. Edibles are more expensive. Buy from a reputable brand that uses the finest hemp that has been specifically bred for higher CBD.
Store in a cool, dark place away from heat and sunlight. A CBD oil will typically have a shelf life of 12 months.
