Using CBD as a food supplement is about finding our what works for you, both in terms of which CBD products you use and how much you use it. Remember that the way you consume CBD can make a huge difference to how much is absorbed into your bloodstream.

As a food supplement, the maximum adult daily CBD dose is 70mg.  Although it is impossible to overdose, it is important not to exceed the maximum CBD dose.

What is CBD (Cannabidiol)?

First, a brief introduction to CBD and how is it produced.

CBD is the abbreviation for cannabidiol, one of the many cannabinoids, or chemical compounds, found in cannabis and hemp. While beneficial for wellbeing, CBD doesn’t have the psychoactive properties of it's cousin THC. Even at high doses CBD will not get you high and it's safe for all the family to use on a regular basis.

How many drops of CBD oil should I take?

When it comes to CBD dosing, there is a lot of conflicting information out there, which you will discover if you Google: how many drops of CBD oil should I take?

There are many reasons for this contradictory information which we will discuss in this article.

Your body chemistry

The first reason is, everyone has a unique body chemistry. When it comes to cannabinoids, there is one universal truth to keep in mind: Everyone is different. This is why there isn't an ideal CBD dose for all individuals, and many factors will influence how much CBD oil to take.

Here are some factors which may affect optimal CBD dose:

  • The concentration of CBD produce.
  • The body weight of the individual.
  • The individual’s body chemistry.
  • The individual's specific health requirements.
  • An individual's sensitivity to CBD.

Not only are we all made differently, we each have our own unique history with the use of substances, medications, supplements, and other things we put in our body. Because of this, we all have different body chemistry, and this will affect how our body reacts to CBD.

Your comfort level

We always recommend that you take the level of CBD that you feel most comfortable with. Your body chemistry can be a factor on how much you can physically take. But it is the level of CBD you feel comfortable taking that should be the biggest factor deciding how much to take.

Once you are comfortable with the hemp derived CBD products and the dosage level you may come to a point that you wish to explore different products. It is about how you feel as much as it is about how much your body can take.

Remember that you do not need to speak to a medical doctor about using nonprescription CBD products. However, if you do have any concerns speak to your GP.

What does bioavailability mean and why does it matter?

Another factor that can affect the dose of CBD you need, is the bioavailability of the specific CBD product you take.

But what does bioavailability mean and why does it matter?

Here's a brief explanation:

In short, bioavailability is the degree and rate at which a substance is absorbed into the bloodstream. So the bioavailability determines how much CBD is absorbed and how quickly the effects are felt.

The bioavailability (absorption rate) of CBD varies based on the consumption method and concentration of CBD in the product in question. So bioavailability becomes an important consideration not only when it comes to choosing your method of taking CBD, but also the amount of CBD you take.

For example; CBD taken orally, like capsules, is known to have a lower absorption rate than CBD oil taken sublingually (under the tongue). Therefore higher doses of CBD may be required to achieve the same effect.

How do you find your optimal CBD dose?

To start with, we recommend using a Love Hemp product twice per day and taking 10mg each time. After a week, double the dose to 20mg twice per day and then increase as desired up to the maximum. As you get to higher doses of CBD you may choose to take it three or four times per day while still not exceeding the maximum of 70mg per day.

If you experience any side effects, take a break for at least one day before returning to the previous lower CBD dosage. You’ll quickly work out what’s best for you.

Now we have established the factors which may influence your correct CBD dosage, you will need to calculate the milligrams (mg) of CBD per dose, of the product you are taking. The following is a simple guide on how to work this out. We have also included the amount of CBD per dose in each of your favourite Love Hemp products.

How to work out milligrams (mg) of CBD per dose

At this point you may now be asking; but how do I know how many milligrams (mg) of CBD I'm taking? How do I calculate milligrams (mg) of CBD per dose?

Some CBD products, like capsules and edibles, have a pre-measured dose, so calculating the dose is easy - just read the label. But with CBD oils the milligrams (mg) per dose is not always obvious and may require a bit of simple maths.

The next question you may wonder is: what are the most effective ways to take CBD? Most CBD products come in oil form, but you can also choose from CBD capsules, CBD-infused cosmetics, CBD gummies and CBD chocolate balls. How you take your daily dose of CBD is up to you, there is plenty of choice on CBD Oils UK.
