Self-care can mean a lot of things, to a lot of different people. It’s easy to see self-care as an extravagant, Instagram-worthy post, but that’s not the case.
The smallest of self-care practices can make such a difference to your mind, body and soul - leaving you happier and healthier for the long-term.
Here, we share some of our small self-care tips to make a big difference.
A good night’s sleep
A good night’s sleep is essential to our health and adults should be getting around 7-8 hours every evening. This may sound difficult to some, though it’s important to prioritise this time to relax your mind and recharge your body for the next day.
Try sticking to a set bedtime and creating an evening routine to help you unwind. Attempt to switch off your phone 30 minutes before you go to sleep and use that time to read a book or practice some deep breathing exercises to help you relax with no distractions.
Whether you’re a fan of reading novels, magazines or the daily news, setting just 15 minutes aside every day to concentrate on something else can help keep your busy mind focused for a short while.
If you’re not a fan of reading, still be sure to take some you-time. This could be playing your favourite video game, listening to music, enjoying a relaxing facemask or even creating something delicious in the kitchen.
Stretch it out
Starting your day out with a big stretch may seem like the simplest of things, but it can make such a difference to your health. Just five minutes of stretching can get the blood circulating around your body, leaving you more alert and energised – ready to take on the day.
Have a catch-up call
When you have a free 10 minutes in your day (don’t say you don’t have time – we can all make a little!), take a moment to pick up the phone to someone you care about.
Whether it’s your parents, an old friend or your other half, having a quick chat with a loved one can really boost your mood.
