4 New Year’s Resolutions You Can Actually Keep

It’s safe to say that everyone’s New Year’s celebrations were a little different from the norm.

But as we enter 2021, something that hasn’t changed is the desire to set resolutions for the year ahead.

Whatever changes you seek, little steps can mean big results. So we’ve put together 4 simple, feel-good resolutions that are both achievable and enjoyable:

Cook up a storm

Everyone wants to eat a little healthier in the New Year – especially after the temptations during lockdown. But healthy eating doesn’t have to be about bland and boring food.

It should be tasty, colourful and enjoyable to cook. So grab the veggies and try cooking up one new healthy meal each week. After all, variety is the spice of life.

Explore new hobbies

Another sleepy Sunday? Today’s the day to try meditation, attend a virtual Zumba class, or take your camera with you on a nature walk – whatever brings you happiness. Hobbies give you an outlet for enjoyment and help keep your mental health in check.

Group hobbies are also a great way to meet other people who share your interests, whether that’s in-person (socially distanced) or online. So look out for forums and join in the fun!

Get enough sleep

According to the National Sleep Foundation, healthy adults need between 7 to 9 hours of good quality sleep to function at their best. In fact, sleep is just as important for your health as exercise and a healthy diet.

But getting an early night is often easier said than done.

So try to incorporate relaxation techniques into your wind-down routine, such as mindfulness exercises.

Reduce your caffeine intake towards the end of the day and skip the late-night scroll through your social media feeds. That way, you’ll feel refreshed in preparation for the day ahead.

Switch up your exercise

Any exercise is good for you, but let’s face it. Doing the same routine on the same day and in the same order is going to get boring. It’s one of the top reasons why people quit their exercise-based resolutions.

So try swapping the treadmill for a swimming pool every once in a while. You could even give rock climbing a go.

Not only will you be exercising more of your body, but you’ll also make exercising, dare we say it – fun!

By trying these simple lifestyle tips, you’ll help jumpstart a healthier body and mind. Make 2021 your healthiest year yet.
