How Much CBD Should I Take?

How Much CBD Should I Take?
Using CBD as a food supplement is about finding out what works for you, both in terms of how you use it and how much. Remember that the way you consume CBD can make a huge difference to how much is absorbed into your bloodstream.

As a food supplement, the maximum adult daily dose is 200mg. CBD is being trialled at much higher doses for use as a medicine but that would be under the supervision of a doctor. Although it is impossible to overdose on CBD, it is important not to exceed the maximum dose.

What is CBD (Cannabidiol)?
First, a brief introduction to CBD and the endocannabinoid system (ECS).

CBD is the abbreviation for cannabidiol, one of the many cannabinoids, or chemical compounds, found in cannabis and hemp. While beneficial for wellbeing, CBD doesn’t have the psychoactive properties of it’s more famous cousin THC. Even at high doses CBD will not get you high and it’s safe for all the family to use on a regular basis.

CBD provides many health benefits through its interaction with the body’s native endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS regulates many vital functions within the body including; mood, appetite, sleep, hormone production, and even stress and immune system responses.

CBD Dosing.
When it comes to CBD dosing, there is a lot of conflicting information out there, which you will discover if you Google: how many drops of CBD oil should I take? There are many reasons for this contradictory information which we will discuss in this article.

Everyone is unique.
The first reason is, everyone is unique. When it comes to cannabinoids, there is one universal truth to keep in mind: Everyone is different. This is why there isn’t a standard CBD dose for all individuals, and many factors will influence how much CBD oil to take.

Here are some factors which may affect optimal CBD dose:
●  The concentration of CBD produce
●  The weight of the individual
●  The individual’s body chemistry
●  The individual’s specific health requirements.
●  An individual’s sensitivity to CBD

Not only are we all made differently, we each have our own unique history with the use of substances, medications, supplements, and other things we put in our body. Because of this, we all have different body chemistry, and this will affect how our body reacts to CBD.

What does bioavailability mean and why does it matter?
Another factor which can affect the amount of CBD you need, is the bioavailability of the specific CBD product you take.

But what does bioavailability mean and why does it matter?

Here’s a brief explanation;
In short, bioavailability is the degree and rate at which a substance is absorbed into the bloodstream. So the bioavailability determines how much CBD is absorbed and how quickly the effects are felt.

The bioavailability (absorption rate) of CBD varies based on the the consumption method and concentration of CBD in the product in question. So bioavailability becomes an important consideration not only when it comes to choosing your method of taking CBD, but also the amount of CBD you take.

For example; CBD taken orally, like capsules, is known to have a lower absorption rate than CBD oil taken sublingually (under the tongue). Therefore higher doses may be required to achieve the same affect.

How do you find your optimal CBD dose?
To start with, we recommend using a Love Hemp product twice per day and taking 10mg each time. After a week, double the dose to 20mg twice per day and then increase as desired up to the maximum. As you get to higher doses you may choose to take CBD three or four times per day while still not exceeding the maximum of 200mg per day.

If you experience any side effects then take a break for at least one day and then return to the previous lower dose. You’ll quickly work out what’s best for you.

Now we have established the factors which may influence your correct CBD dose, you will need to calculate the milligrams (mg) of CBD per dose, of the product you are taking. The following is a simple guide on how to work this out. We have also included the amount of CBD per dose in each of your favourite Love Hemp products.

How to work out milligrams (mg) of CBD per dose.
At this point you may now be asking; but how do I know how many milligrams (mg) of CBD I’m taking? How do I calculate milligrams (mg) of CBD per dose?

Some CBD products, like capsules and edibles, have a pre measured dose, so calculating the dose is easy – just read the label. But with CBD oils the milligrams (mg) per dose is not always obvious and may require a bit of simple maths. Let us talk you through it;

CBD Oils
Firstly, to calculate how much CBD oil to take you need to know how many milligrams of CBD are contained in 1 drop of the oil you are wanting to take.

In a 10ml bottle of CBD oil there are approximately 200 drops. So to find out how many milligrams (mg) per drop you just divide the total milligrams (mg) of CBD per bottle by 200. Obviously for bigger bottles you need to adjust your calculation.

Example:
500mg per 10ml (5%) 500/200 = 2.5mg per drop.

CBD Capsules.
The bioavailability is lower in CBD softgel capsules than some other methods of consuming CBD, so you may need to adjust your dose accordingly. The CBD content per softgel capsule is as follows;

Love Hemp 300mg CBD Softgel Capsules.
10mg per capsule.

Love Hemp 750mg CBD Softgel Capsules.
25mg per capsule

CBD E-Liquids
For CBD E-liquids it’s more difficult to calculate an exact dose but it is possible to estimate your dose based on the amount (volume) of E-liquid you vape per day. Please be sure not to exceed the maximum of 200mg per day.

To work out how many mg of CBD you consume while vaping, you need to work out how many millimetres or ml (volume) you vape per day. To gauge how many ml you vape per day, just fill your tank with 1ml of your CBD E-liquid and see how long it takes you to finish it.

Example:
250mg per 15ml
If you vape 1ml a day divide 250mg by 15. 250/15 = 16.7mg a day

Here’s a guide to the amount of CBD in Love Hemp CBD E-Liquids:

Love Hemp 100mg CBD E-Liquid – 15ml
6.7mg per 1ml

Love Hemp 250mg CBD E-Liquid – 15ml
16.7mg per 1ml

Love Hemp 750mg CBD E-Liquid Vape Additive – 15ml
50mg per 1ml
